Health And Safety Policy
Holland Park Cleaners Health And Safety Policy
Holland Park Cleaners is committed to providing cleaning services in a way that protects the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across all cleaning activities, including work in homes, offices, commercial premises and shared spaces.
We recognise that effective health and safety management is an essential part of delivering a reliable, professional cleaning service. Our goal is to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health through planning, training, supervision and continuous improvement.
Policy Objectives
The objectives of this Health and Safety Policy are to:
Identify and manage the main risks associated with our cleaning services.
Provide and maintain safe systems of work, safe equipment and safe use of cleaning substances.
Ensure all employees are competent to carry out their tasks and receive appropriate information, instruction and training.
Protect clients, visitors and the public from risks arising from our work.
Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and recognised industry standards.
Review and improve our health and safety performance on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company leadership, who ensure that this policy is implemented and that adequate resources are made available.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
Ensuring risk assessments are completed, recorded and reviewed.
Providing training, information and supervision to staff.
Checking that staff follow safe working procedures at all times.
Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses and taking corrective action.
All employees and contractors working on behalf of Holland Park Cleaners must:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
Follow all safety instructions, training and site rules.
Use equipment, substances and personal protective equipment correctly.
Report hazards, accidents, near misses, ill health and unsafe practices without delay.
Risk Assessment And Safe Working Practices
We undertake risk assessments for our cleaning tasks and premises where we work. These assessments identify potential hazards, evaluate the level of risk and set out measures to control those risks. Examples include slips and trips, manual handling, working at height on steps or ladders, electrical safety, use of machinery and security risks when working alone or outside normal hours.
Safe working procedures are developed from these risk assessments and communicated to all staff. These procedures include guidance on correct lifting techniques, safe use of vacuum cleaners, floor machines and other equipment, appropriate footwear and the safe movement of furniture and other items.
Risk assessments are reviewed whenever there are significant changes to our work activities, equipment, cleaning products or locations, and at regular intervals to ensure they remain current and effective.
COSHH And Use Of Cleaning Chemicals
Cleaning products and other substances used at work are managed in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health principles. We maintain information on the substances we use and ensure staff understand the hazards and control measures associated with each product.
This includes:
Following manufacturer instructions for storage, dilution and application.
Using appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks or eye protection where required.
Ensuring good ventilation where products with strong vapours are used.
Never mixing incompatible chemicals and clearly labelling all containers.
Only trained staff are authorised to handle more hazardous products. Wherever practical, we aim to use low hazard or environmentally considerate cleaning products that still meet the cleaning needs of our clients.
Training, Information And Supervision
Holland Park Cleaners provides health and safety induction training to all new starters, including safe use of equipment, handling of chemicals, emergency procedures and reporting processes. Additional task-specific training is provided as required, for example for specialist machinery or working in sensitive environments.
Refresher training is provided at appropriate intervals, and whenever procedures, products or equipment change. Supervisors monitor working practices to ensure that training is understood and followed in day-to-day work.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means, we provide suitable personal protective equipment. This may include protective gloves, safety footwear, masks or respirators, eye protection or aprons, depending on the task.
Staff are instructed in the correct use, care and storage of personal protective equipment and are required to wear it as directed. Defective or damaged equipment must be reported and replaced promptly.
Accidents, Incidents And First Aid
All accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences involving our staff or arising from our work must be reported to management as soon as possible. Records of incidents are kept so that we can identify patterns, learn from them and prevent recurrence.
Suitable first aid arrangements are maintained appropriate to the nature of our work. Staff are informed of the location of first aid supplies and the process for obtaining urgent assistance where required. In shared or client premises we cooperate with local first aid and emergency procedures.
Safe Equipment And Maintenance
All equipment used for cleaning tasks is selected, maintained and inspected to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose. This includes vacuum cleaners, floor machines, carpet extractors, steam cleaners and any other powered or manual equipment.
Faulty equipment must be taken out of service immediately and reported so that it can be repaired or replaced. Staff must not attempt makeshift repairs or use damaged cables, plugs or attachments.
Lone Working And Security
Cleaning work is often carried out outside normal business hours or in quiet areas. We assess and manage the risks associated with lone working, including communication arrangements, access controls and site-specific rules. Staff are instructed not to put themselves at unnecessary risk and to follow agreed sign-in, sign-out and security procedures at each location.
Consultation And Continuous Improvement
We encourage employees to raise health and safety concerns and suggestions. Input from staff carrying out daily cleaning tasks is vital to identifying practical improvements. Where necessary we also consult with clients regarding specific site hazards, access arrangements and any individuals with particular needs who may be affected by our work.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, our services or the nature of the premises we work in. By working together and following this policy, Holland Park Cleaners aims to provide a consistently safe and responsible cleaning service for all.
